Animals held for pickup must be picked up the day they arrived to the FedEx Hub.
What company and service do we use?
For animals we use FedEx and ship Priority Overnight.
For dry goods we may use USPS, FedEx, UPS, or DHL.
When do we ship?
Shipping days are Monday - Wednesday. Arrival days are Tuesdays - Thursdays as the reptiles ship PRIORITY OVERNIGHT. Thursday shipments for Friday arrival may be requested, but ultimately decided by Modern Reptile. Thursday shipments can ONLY go to a Fedex location that allows dangerous goods shipping (as noted on the fedex website). Usually, the delivery time is between 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM (your local time) in most metro areas, however some remote areas may not be guaranteed to arrive until 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM.
Once your order is printed, we will contact you to mutually agree on a ship date to ensure availability and temperatures on both ends. We are not local to you, please note we check the weather via Google. If there are any storms and/or “acts of god”, the customer must disclose this information and a different ship day must be picked.
What are our temperature requirements?
Temperature requirements for shipping vary between April-September and October-March. For animal safety, Modern Reptile acknowledges weather changes can affect shipping depending on species.
Between April-September overnight low temperature must be above 40 degrees fahrenheit and the following days high temperature must not be above 92 degrees fahrenheit for home delivery. However, if shipping to a Fedex location that allows dangerous goods shipping (as noted on the fedex website), overnight temperatures can be as low as 35 degrees fahrenheit and the following days high temperature can be as high as 95 degrees fahrenheit.
Between October-March overnight low temperature must be above 35 degrees fahrenheit and the following days high temperature must not be above 90 degrees fahrenheit for home delivery. However, if shipping to a Fedex location that allows dangerous goods shipping (as noted on the fedex website), overnight temperatures can be as low as 30 degrees fahrenheit and the following days high temperature can be as high as 92 degrees fahrenheit.
Having temperature variations greatly decreases the chance of a Dead On Arrival (D.O.A) and will assist the arrival of the reptiles as season changes greatly affect the shipping process.
Where do we ship?
Shipments can only be made to the 48 continental states.
Does someone need to be home to receive the package?
YES! In order for our Live Arrival Guarantee (L.A.G) to be valid, someone MUST be home to receive the package.
Is Signature required?
FedEx does not require a signature to leave the package. Modern Reptile is not responsible for any package once it has been tendered to FedEx. If you are not going to be available to receive the package we recommend contacting us before the scheduled ship day.
Please note that FedEx Drivers WILL NOT wait for you to come to the door. Usually, FedEx will quickly knock or ring the doorbell, and leave your package near your front door. Unfortunately, this is industry standard and is the protocol for FedEx. We purposely do not require signature, as we do not want to risk having reptiles go back on a hot (or cold) truck for the rest of the day, in the event that you are not able to make it to the door in time. This procedure is for the safety of the reptiles.
Dry goods shipping info:
Dry goods shipping arrival may vary depending on product and customer location.
Dry goods purchased at the same time as reptiles will still be shipped separately.
All orders must be shipped within two months unless otherwise agreed upon or if weather impedes any shipping. There are no additional costs for animals held due to shipping temperatures. Customers that have fully paid for a live animal and have completely lost contact for 3 weeks (without warning and with permitting shipping weather.) will be given 75% (we keep the 25% nonrefundable deposit) of the funds in store credit and the animal will be made available once again for others. We will do our best to contact the customer prior to taking action. If any customer needs to request an extension on shipping over the two month period, babysitting rates may apply.
